Week 14--November 24-30, 2019
We started off the week with Family Home Evening at the home of President and Sister Love. We bid farewell to Elder and Sister Olson. We welcomed Elder and Sister Garner, Elder and Sister Larson, Sister Beckstrand, and Sister Albiston.
It involves a lot of work to get the Nativity into place.
The Nativity is all set in front of the Independence Visitors' Center.
Thanksgiving was celebrated with other senior couples. We had a wonderful feast. The tables were loaded with the bounties of life. Garnalee made rolls for the dinner.
At our table were seated Elder and Sister Hansen, Sister Garner (Elder Garner was taking a picture), Elder and Sister Daniels, Elder and Sister Dunn, Elder Harrington (Sister Harrington was taking the picture), and Elder and Sister Penrose. (Starting on the left and going around the table.)
The trees were decorated this week at Liberty Jail. Sister Walker and Sister Pomeroy help with the ornaments.
Sister Pomeroy works on putting the tree skirt down.
Then it was time to tackle the tree in the Exit Room. Sister Cannon and Sister Penrose hold the tree up while Sister Walker works with tree stand.
Sister Walker, Sister Horman, and Sister Coronado help with the ornaments.
The tree is completed.
Lest you may think all we do is eat and decorate Christmas trees, we need to note that we also welcomed two new senior couples into the mission. The Larsons, from Holiday, Utah, who will be serving with us at the visitors' centers, and the Garners from St. George, Utah (interestingly just moved there from Lee's Summit a year and a half ago. Lee's Summit is just up the road from here.), Elder Garner will be the new car czar, and Sister Garner is the mission office receptionist. We got to see the new video from the Church on the Christ child.
Some days at the visitors' centers we have only a handful of visitors, but on Friday we had 136 visitors. While we normally defer to the sisters to give the tours, we fill in as needed, and were needed when large groups come in. Garnalee set the bar pretty high as she led the FMTM (Friday morning training meeting) discussion on Saints, chapters 16 and 17. She did so well that Sister Cannon asked her to present it again for the SMTM (Saturday . . . ). Sister Cannon asked Tom to lead the discussion next week which will be chapters 18 and 19. If it goes well, we'll mention it next week's blog. If not, there'll be no mention. :-)
